Former Australia captain Michael Clarke has been diagnosed with a recurrence of skin cancer. The Australian legend shared a health update with fans on social media after surgery, which he underwent on his nose.

Notably, Clarke underwent treatment for skin cancer in 2006, when doctors suspected spots on his face. He got the disease treated immediately, as spots on his face and chest were removed with surgery.

In 2019, he again underwent treatment to remove cancerous growths in his forehead. Since then, the cricketer-turned-commentator has been vocal about spreading awareness about skin cancer.

On Wednesday (August 23), Clarke took to Instagram to share that he has been diagnosed with skin cancer. He shared a photo of his nose after surgery and also urged his fans to get checked for skin cancer regularly.

“Skin cancer is real! Especially in Australia. Another one cut out of my nose today. A friendly reminder to get your skin checked. Prevention is better than cure but in my case, regular check-ups and early detection is key. So grateful that @drbishsoliman_ got it early,” Clarke wrote.

Meanwhile, Clarke is a former skipper of Australia who led the team to the title in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015. During his 13-year-long career from 2003 to 2015, he played 115 tests, 245 ODIs, and 34 T20Is for Australia.

At an average of 49.10, the right-handed batsman amassed 8643 runs in test cricket, with 28 tons and 27 fifties. In ODIs, he mustered 7981 runs at an average of 44.58, hitting eight centuries and 58 half-centuries.

With a lone fifty, Clarke scored 488 runs in the shortest format. He retired from international cricket in 2015. Post his retirement, he became a commentator.
