Michael Vaughan criticizes BCCI’s “ridiculous” scheduling of the mega auction.

Former England captain Michael Vaughan has raised questions over the scheduling of the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction by the BCCI.

The IPL 2025 mega auction, which will be held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, will take place on November 24 and 25. The auction dates are in the middle of the first Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25 test match.

The BGT 2024-25 will get underway on November 22 at the Optus Stadium in Perth. This means that the third and fourth days of the Perth test will coincide with the mega auction.

The BCCI has tried to avoid the clashes in the timings of the two events. The Perth test is scheduled to get underway at 7.50 AM IST and the mega auction is slated to start at 3 PM IST.

Michael Vaughan says Indian test players might be distracted during auction days

While for the viewers it is convenient to follow the mega auction after the play in Perth, Michael Vaughan reckons it could still affect the Indian players who are part of both the Perth test and the mega auction.

Several players from the current Indian test squad will be up for grabs in the mega auction. Vaughan has slammed the “ridiculous” scheduling of the auction by the BCCI.

He pointed out that there is a big gap between the first test in Perth and the second test in Adelaide, which starts on December 6th, during which the auction could have been scheduled.

“I don’t agree with the fact that they put the IPL auction in the middle of the first Test. I think it’s ridiculous. We’ve got a nine-day break in between the first and the second (Tests) why they’re putting it there when you know the players are under pressure playing in a Test match, why they’d want to sway the profile of that Test match onto an IPL auction in Saudi I’m not too sure,” Vaughan told Codesports.
