Mitchell Santner is highest wicket-taker in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 with 11 wickets to his name.

In the ICC Cricket ODI World Cup 2023 game between New Zealand and Afghanistan, Afghanistan's captain, Hashmatullah Shahidi, won the toss and asked New Zealand bat first. New Zealand managed to score 288 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in their allotted 50 overs, with notable contributions from Tom Latham and Glenn Phillips, both of whom scored fifties. Mark Chapman's late burst of runs pushed New Zealand's total beyond what's typically considered a competitive score.

In the second innings, New Zealand's start was spectacular as Matt Henry and Trent Boult dismissed Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran.

During 14th over of the game, Afghanistan's captain Hashmatullah Shahidi was at the crease, facing Lockie Ferguson. It was during this moment that Mitchell Santner executed one of the most incredible catches of the tournament.

Shahidi attempted to play a short delivery off Lockie Ferguson, but his timing was off, causing the ball to head towards the square-leg region. Santner, stationed at mid-wicket, quickly recognized the opportunity. He sprinted backward, leaped forward, and extended his arm as if it were a telescopic device, successfully snatching the ball out of the air.

This astounding catch resulted in the dismissal of Hashmatullah Shahidi, marking a pivotal turning point in the game. Notably, the Afghanistan skipper had only scored 8 runs from 29 deliveries before getting out.

Afghanistan faced a batting collapse, losing wickets continuously, and they were eventually bowled out for a mere 139 runs. New Zealand emerged victorious with a convincing margin of 149 runs. Mitchell Santner and Lockie Ferguson both played crucial roles, each taking 3 wickets in the match.
