"India can field different T20I, ODI and test teams to play on the same day.." Mitchell Starc hails talent pool in Indian cricket

Mitchell Starc also spoke on the role of IPL in providing Indian team with talent.
Australia speedster Mitchell Starc has stated that India is so rich in talent and has such a huge talent pool that they can field a different team in all three international formats on the same day against different opponents.
This is visible in ODIs and T20Is already, that both the teams have very few players in common with youngsters going gung-ho in the shortest international format in recent times. On the other hand, veterans are leading the way in tests and ODIs, but India have a vast resource pool to pick players from if need arises.
Mitchell Starc also complimented India’s skill, stating that they can face Australia in tests, England in ODIs, and South Africa in T20Is on the same day and remain competitive.
“I think they are probably the only nation that can have a Test team, a one-day team, and a T20 team play on the same day against Australia in the Test, England in the one-dayer, and South Africa in the T20I; and India will be competitive. No other country can do that,” said Starc in a show on the YouTube channel ‘FanaticsTV.’.
Mitchell Starc had recently skipped the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 due to injury concerns and personal reasons as the tournament was hosted in Pakistan, with Australia playing their games in the country.
It’s the number one product: Mitchell Starc on IPL
Mitchell Starc’s statement was a component of his reaction to a question posed by the show moderator regarding whether India’s advantage in white-ball competitions stems from the Indian Premier League’s (IPL) annual growth.
The IPL 2025 will be the tournament’s 18th season, and the brand has become one of the top five sporting entities in the world, even leaving Premier League football behind, and is only trailing the NFL and the NBA.
Starc praised the IPL for becoming a platform for budding young Indian players to showcase their wares.
“I am not sure if it’s an advantage per se because as cricketers we have got these opportunities to play all franchise (cricket) around the world (but) the Indian guys can only play in the IPL,” said Starc.
“Obviously, it’s the number one product, has got all the Indians playing, and so much influx of international talent. It’s at the top. There’s no doubt that it’s a huge tournament… But I don’t think you can just sit on that because you have guys (players around the world) that play 5-6 different franchise leagues a year, so they are still getting exposure to world cricket. That (IPL) helps; it’s a great tournament, but obviously, you have got to have talent there, and the depth in Indian cricket (is huge),” he added.
Starc will be seen in action in IPL 2025, where he will turn out for Delhi Capitals.
