Mixed reactions from fans as Virat Kohli hits century against Bangladesh in ICC Cricket World Cup 2023
Virat Kohli took 97 balls to complete his 48th ODI century.
Team India have thumped Bangladesh down by 7 wickets at MCA Stadium in Pune. India successfully chased down 257 runs against Bangladesh and won their 4th consecutive game in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. Indian fans had double delight as their favourite superstar Virat Kohli also smashed his 48th ODI and 78th International century. Virat Kohli finished the game with a massive six over the long boundary line.
A hundred over Team's win?
Virat Kohli’s approach in the later part of his innings and while finishing the game brought out divided opinions among cricket fans. Virat delayed the team’s win over Bangladesh by a few overs to complete his career milestone and few fans were furious about Virat’s approach towards the end. Fans claimed that the delay in the win could hit India’s net run rate if that comes into the picture for semi-final qualification.
Few rejoice the century
They also slammed Virat Kohli for putting his personal milestone above the team’s win in a multi-national ICC event. On the other hand, a few sections of fans rejoiced at Kohli’s brilliance in a run chase once again. Kohli never looked out of control during his innings and scored the last 26 required runs for India alone and KL Rahul played a supportive role to the former Indian captain. They also cheered for their favourite son closing in for another record.
Fans cheered for Virat Kohli and said that he deserved his World Cup century as he had done the hard work against Bangladesh in a 257-run chase. Virat Kohli is now just one century away from equaling Sachin Tendulkar’s magic number of 49 ODI hundreds. Sachin has scored 49 centuries in ODIs in his career of 463 ODIs. He is also closing in on Sachin’s international century record and against Bangladesh he completed his 78th international century.

Virat Kohli missed out on a century against Australia as he was dismissed on 85 runs when India required 36 runs for victory. Virat’s chase masterclass has put India among the table-toppers New Zealand with 8 points in 4 games. India’s net run rate stands at +1.659 while New Zealand are table topper with +1.923 and 8 points.
