Several people lost their lives and got injured during RCB’s IPL 2025 victory celebrations.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) Director of Cricket Mo Bobat has said that the franchise should honour the victims of the Bengaluru stampede. He also added that their stories have become a part of RCB’s history now.

Notably, RCB organised a victory celebration on June 4 in Bengaluru after they won the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 final. A felicitation ceremony for RCB players was organised at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on June 4, a day after IPL 2025 final.

However, due to mismanagement and overcrowding, a stampede occurred near one of the gates of M Chinnaswamy Stadium. In the deadly incident, several people lost their lives while over 50 others were injured. A police complaint was also filed against the organisers of the ceremony for negligence, and several arrests were made by the police.

During an interview with Cricbuzz, RCB Director of Cricket Mo Bobat said that the franchise should honour the fans who lost their lives during the Bengaluru stampede. He also added that their experience has now become a part of RCB’s heritage and history.

“Cricket and the IPL is so much about passion and enjoyment, and one of our biggest motivators is our fans. We talked during the competition that we want to win it for our fans. They’ve been the patient ones. These fans have waited 18 years, so we wanted to do it for them, and for some of them to have lost their lives just feels incredibly sad,” he said.

“We look forward to being able to recognise those people and their families. Their stories have become a part of our history now. Every sports team has a history, and it has a heritage. What they’ve experienced becomes a part of our heritage and history, and we have to honour them,” he added.

Notably, the Bengaluru-based franchise announced a compensation of Rs. 10 lakhs to the families of the victims. They also launched an ‘RCB Cares’ fund to provide medical assistance to the injured fans.

Meanwhile, the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru has been removed as a venue for ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025. The stadium could not get the necessary permissions from the authorities to host the games. D Y Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai has replaced Bengaluru as one of the five venues for the tournament.
