Moeen Ali has scored 2914 runs and taken 195 wickets in 64 tests he has played for England in the longest format.

England all-rounder Moeen Ali might reverse his Test retirement and get back in Whites for the Ashes 2023 Test series.

The 35-year-old announced his retirement from the longest format in September 2021. According to reports, England captain Ben Stokes and head coach Brendon McCullum have contacted the seasoned all-rounder and spoken about his potential return to the team.

Right before the Ashes, England were hit by huge news that Jack Leech wouldn't be available for the series and has been ruled out of the Ashes 2023 series because of a lower back stress fracture.

Notably, Leech is the only spinner to play 13 Tests in the Bazball era. He has picked up 45 wickets in his duration. This is certainly a huge loss for the host team with just 11 days left for the marquee event.

England do have other options in the form of Rehan Ahmed, Liam Dawson and Adil Rashid amongst others for the position. However, they have contacted the experienced spinner and have given him some time to think about the offer.

Moeen Ali refused offer earlier in October 2022

Notably, this is not the first time England management had contacted the spinner. In October, Ali revealed that the head coach Brendon McCullum had contacted him to talk about his return to Test cricket but he had refused the offer.

Moeen Ali, who had featured in the recently concluded Indian Premier League for the champions Chennai Super Kings, has played 64 Tests and has notched up 2914 runs at an average of 28.29. He also has grabbed 195 wickets.

Talking about his inclusion to Sky Sports, Stuart Broad said that Moeen Ali is a mighty fine cricketer and would fit the team's philosophy beautifully.

"It's hypothetical at the moment. I don't know if that's been a thing or a talking point in particular," Broad said on Monday.

"We know Mo is a phenomenal cricketer and someone who would fit into Stokes and Baz's philosophy beautifully. I don't know if he's being considered by the selectors or if he would consider red-ball cricket again. But he's a mighty fine cricketer," Broad added.
