Moeen Ali is an ECB centrally contracted player unlike Jason Roy.

New reports have emerged that after England star Jason Roy was approached by the Knight Rider’s franchise for a mega deal to cancel his England contract for the Major League Cricket deal in the USA, all-rounder Moeen Ali has been contacted for the same.

England's swashbuckling opener Jason Roy could terminate his incremental contract with England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) for a huge deal with United States-based Major League Cricket.

The six-team tournament will be played from July 13 to 30 at Grand Prairie Stadium in Texas. MLC will clash with the semifinal and finals of the T20 Blast on July 15. Meanwhile, there are County Championship fixtures between July 15 and 30. Moreover, The Hundred is slated to start on August 1. So, ECB is unlikely to give a no-objection certificate to Roy to play in the US.

England's contracts run from October to September. A release from an incremental deal at this stage would cost £20,000 as against the £66,000 deal signed by Roy.

Texas hopeful of signing Moeen Ali for 2024 season after deal falls through for the 2023 edition

Now a Yahoo Sports report has revealed that Chennai Super Kings’ sister franchise in MLC, the Texas Super Kings, is planning to offer him a multi-franchise deal.

However, Moeen is a centrally contracted player, is desired by Texas, who are owned by the Chennai Super Kings. Chennai also owns a team in the South African 20 league, the Joburg Super Kings, and hopes to sign Moeen for that team as well.

Texas tried to sign Moeen for this season’s Major League Cricket tournament but, as a centrally contracted England player, Moeen was not permitted to play. But Texas is very hopeful that Moeen will be signed in time for the 2024 season.

Moeen is under contract with the ECB until October 1. He is an important part of England's plans for this year's 50-over World Cup in India, but he may retire from one-day internationals after the tournament.

The 2024 edition of Major League Cricket is due to begin soon after the World Cup, and Super Kings hope that Moeen will feature for Texas in the competition. Moeen rejoined Warwickshire this season and captains the Birmingham Bears, the side’s T20 team, in the T20 Blast.
