Moeen Ali was part of England’s ICC ODI World Cup 2019 and T20 World Cup 2022 winning squads.

On Sunday, September 8, 2024, veteran England cricket team all-rounder Moeen Ali announced his retirement from international cricket. He will continue to play franchise cricket.

The 37-year-old announced his retirement after he was overlooked for the upcoming home white-ball matches against the Australian cricket team. Moeen’s last international match was during England’s semi-final loss against the Indian cricket team at the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

He made his white-ball debut in both formats when England toured the West Indies in 2014. The all-rounder went on to play 138 ODIs and 92 T20Is.

Moeen made his test debut against Sri Lanka in 2014 at the Lord’s Cricket Ground. He played 68 test matches for England cricket in his illustrious career. Overall, Moeen Ali finished with 6678 runs, including eight hundreds and 28 fifties, along with picking up 366 wickets in all formats.

Moeen Ali reveals the greatest moment of his England career

After announcing his retirement from international cricket, Moeen Ali picked the greatest moment of his England career. Surprisingly, the 37-year-old didn’t pick winning the two ICC World Cups for England – the ODI World Cup 2019 and the T20 World Cup 2022.

The veteran all-rounder picked claiming a test hat-trick in a test against South Africa at the Oval in 2017 as his best individual moment. Moeen dismissed Dean Elgar, Kagiso Rabada, and Morne Morkel, and rode England to a 239-run win.

“Winning the Ashes and two World Cups was great, but from an individual point of view it was my Test hat-trick against South Africa at the Oval to win us the game. And I’m proud to have the fastest T20 50 for England (16 balls vs South Africa in 2022),” Moeen Ali told Daily Mail.
