Mohammad Kaif said that he is a well-wisher of Jasprit Bumrah.

Former India batter Mohammad Kaif came up with a humble response to Jasprit Bumrah after the Indian pacer openly slammed him over his prior comments. Kaif urged Bumrah to take his earlier comments as a cricketing observation and said that he is a well-wisher of the pacer.

It all started when Kaif posted a tweet on Friday, September 25, about Bumrah, saying that the management uses fast bowler to bowl three-over spells at the start to avoid any injuries. However, this strategy could hurt the team.

Notably, the right-arm pacer bowled three overs in the power play during the previous clash against Bangladesh in Asia Cup 2025. Not only in that game, but skipper Suryakumar Yadav has been using the same strategy since the start tournament, which raised many questions.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday, Kaif said that Bumrah is bowling three-over spells at the start to avoid any injuries. Earlier, he used to bowl only one over in the powerplay overs.

“Bumrah under Rohit would generally bowl overs 1, 13, 17, 19. Under Surya, in Asia cup, he bowled a three-overs spell at the start. To avoid injury, Bumrah these days, prefers to bowl while his body is warmed up. 1 over of Bumrah in the remaining 14 overs is a huge relief for batters, against stronger teams at World Cup, this could hurt India,” Kaif tweeted.

Bumrah was quick to respond to Kaif over the remarks, and openly slammed him on the post, saying: Inaccurate before inaccurate again.

Responding to Bumrah’s comments, Kaif did some damage control and urged the Indian pacer to perceive his comments as a cricketing observation from a well-wisher. Kaif also called Bumrah the ‘biggest match-winner for Indian cricket’.

“Please take this as a cricketing observation from a well-wisher and an admirer. You are Indian cricket’s biggest match-winner and I know what it takes to give it all when on field wearing India colours,” Kaif wrote.

Notably, Bumrah has clinched five wickets in four games in Asia Cup 2025 so far at an average of 22.0. The Men in Blue have utilised Bumrah as the only front-line pacer in the playing XI in all crucial games as they have opted for spin-heavy attack in spin favoured conditions.

Meanwhile, India have booked a berth in Asia Cup 2025 final, where they will face their arch-rivals, Pakistan. The encounter will be played on September 28 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. Ahead of the final, India will play a match against Sri Lanka on September 26.
