Mohammed Shami disappointed after GT's loss to DC despite bowling a great spell
GT captain Hardik Pandya disappointed to see Mohammed Shami's spell ending up on a losing side.
Ishant Sharma’s brilliant last over gave Delhi Capitals their third win of the season. Gujarat Titans failed to chase down 131 runs at Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium in Ahmedabad. Titans' iceman Rahul Tewatia did try his best with a 7-ball cameo but could not take Gujarat Titans over the line. Captain Hardik Pandya remained unbeaten on 59 runs. Titans, just like Delhi Capitals, lost early wickets and that put pressure on their chase. Titans lost 4 early wickets and were 32-4 in 7 overs. Khaleel Ahmed and Ishant Sharma picked up 2 wickets each in their 4 overs spell. Delhi Capitals as usual had a poor start in batting. Delhi were 5 down in 28 runs in the Power play.
Mohammed Shami rattled Delhi Capitals top & middle order
Titans' pacer Mohammed Shami bowled a magical spell to start the game. Shami picked up 4 wickets at the top in his 4 overs and gave only 11 runs. Delhi’s top order was completely bamboozled by the Shami-Saha duo. Saha took three catches and also won the prize money for his brilliant catch to dismiss Manish Pandey. Gujarat Titans' captain Hardik Pandya was disappointed that Shami ended up on the losing side. He said, “I feel sorry for him. If you bowl like that, you get the team to 130, I think the batters are disappointed, I don’t think the ball did a lot, I think it’s just Mohammed Shami’s skill set which he has and he made the ball talk”. Hardik Pandya also felt that he couldn't get the rhythm while on the chase.
Warner wants some correction in DC's batting
Once Delhi Capitals looked struggling to even touch the 100 runs mark but Aman Khan (51) with his half-century and Axar (27) and Ripal Patel’s (23) small contribution steered the team’s score to 130. Talking about lower order David Warner said, “A great anchor role with Aman Khan and Ripal Patel and it was a fantastic way to finish out the inning. That was nail-biter, we just keep finding ways to lose wickets in clumps”. Captain Warner also praised Khaleel Ahmed and Ishant Sharma. He said, “Khaleel was on the sideline last game. He was fit last game and unlucky to miss out. With Ishant forever getting younger and coming out and delivering, it’s amazing to see him”.
Shami stick to his plan against DC
Gujarat Titans' pace bowler Mohammed Shami won the Player of the Match award for his outstanding bowling spell of 4/11. He has also earned the Purple cap in the IPL 2023 with 17 wickets in 9 games. Mohammed Shami said, “I just try to stick to my plans. Stick to the areas, lines, and lengths that we discussed. That was not a score that was above par, there was not too much swing, I felt that we should have chased this total”. Shami also blamed batters for losing wickets early in the innings, said, “The mistake was losing wickets at regular intervals. We needed partnerships and they came too late for us”. This is Gujarat Titans' only 3rd loss this season.
