Mohammed Shami has been recovering from an ankle injury.

Mohammed Shami is over the moon after receiving the prestigious Arjun Award at the hands of the President of India Droupadi Murmu at the Rashtrapati Bhavan.

However, when it comes to cricket, Shami has been out of action since the World Cup 2023 concluded. The pacer suffered a knee and an ankle injury and hence missed the home series against Australia and the tour of South Africa.

He was India’s best performer with the ball in the ICC event, picking the most wickets in the tournament (24). As he continues to rehabilitate, there have been concerns over his availability for the five-match Test series against England later this month, but the right-arm pacer has stated that he still hopes to play in the series despite missing the South Africa tour.

He told India Today, “I am trying best to be available for the selection for England The series test match is longer format so you don’t want to be in doubt.”

India and England’s five-match Test series will begin on January 25 in Hyderabad.

Mohammed Shami opens up about his chances for T20 World Cup 2024

Fast bowler Mohammed Shami, like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and KL Rahul, has not played a T20I for India since the semi-final loss to England in Adelaide during the 2022 T20 World Cup.

In his absence, the BCCI selectors have tried other fast bowling options like Arshdeep Singh, Avesh Khan, and Mukesh Kumar. Ajit Agarkar and his selection committee are yet to make it official on who stands where in the scheme of things for the T20 World Cup, which will take place between June 1 and 29 in the USA and the West Indies.

Meanwhile, Mohammed Shami in conversation with India Today, also spoke about the lack of clarity on his selection for the T20 World Cup.

“Whenever it comes to T20s , many times I don’t understand that whether I am in scene or not. But what I feel is that you have IPL before the T20 World Cup and that is the best opportunity to bring in momentum, and if management will ask me to play, I’ll be available,” Shami said.
