Mohammed Shami is the leading wicket-taker in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.

The whole world is waiting for the moment when India and Australia will step on the field for the final clash of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. This game will decide which team will mark themselves as world champions. Both teams have shown a great deal of skills to be here on the biggest stage. India have won ten out of ten, while Australia have 8 consecutive wins.

These two teams play a lot against each other across formats and are familiar with the challenges the opposition can pose on a given day. But still, the team that can hold their nerves will get an edge over the opposition. If Australia have the pace trio of Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins, and Josh Hazlewood, then India have probably the best three pacers, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, and Mohammed Siraj. Hence, it will be a contest to watch out for.

Australia skipper Pat Cummins on Mohammed Shami

Indian bowling has done a tremendous job in the tournament so far. The pacers have swung the ball, and the spinners have taken wickets consistently in the middle. However, one man who has certainly impressed everyone is veteran pacer Mohammed Shami. He was not part of the first four matches of the tournament, but an injury to Hardik Pandya forced India to pick him in the XI. Since then, he has not looked back.

Shami has taken the most wickets in the tournament. He has 23 wickets in just six innings and single-handedly took India to the finals with 7/57 against New Zealand in the semi-finals. Australian skipper Pat Cummins also reckons that Shami will be a big challenge for Australian batters. He said in the pre-match conference, "One guy that didn't play at the start of the tournament who's done really well is obviously Mohammed Shami; he's a class bowler to right and left armers, so yeah, he's going to be a big one."

Cummins also talked about the impact that Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav have made in the middle overs and said that they can also turn the game on the given day. However, Australian captain believes that they play a lot with Indian bowlers, which will help them tackle them in the finals. The game will be played on Sunday at the Narendra Modi Stadium.
