Mohammed Shami is playing his 2nd game of Asia Cup 2023.

Mohammed Shami was sitting on the bench, watching Indian pacers go at Pakistan and Sri Lanka in the last week. Shami, when he gets his chance, showcases why he is still the best ODI bowler for team India. Shami picked up his first wicket in Asia Cup 2023 with a beautiful delivery that castled Litton Das and set the tone for Indian pace attack in the absence of Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj. Team India went in with five changes in their playing XI against Bangladesh at R Premadasa Cricket Stadium in Colombo.

Mohammed Shami sends back Litton Das

Mohammed Shami took the new ball and got hit for a boundary by debutant Tanzid Hasan in his first delivery. Soon in the next over, he made a great comeback and delivered a seam-up to Bangladesh star Litton Das. The right-handed batter completely misjudged the pace and line and lost his wood-work due to the big gap between bat and ball. Litton Das couldn’t even complete his defence before the ball rattled the stumps to give India their first breakthrough. Shami got the Bangladesh opener on a second-ball duck.

Soon after, in the next over, Shardul Thakur also picked up his first wicket in the game as he dismissed Tanzid Hasan. Hasan went for a pull shot in Shardul Thakur’s short delivery, but unfortunately, he got an inside edge that went on to hit the stumps. Both Thakur and Mohammed Shami got Bangladesh openers early to put them under pressure in the game. This is Mohammed Shami’s second game in the tournament. Before this, he was given the charge of attack in Jasprit Bumrah’s absence against Nepal.

Team India have made five changes to their playing XI and rested Mohammed Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah in the pace bowling attack, along with Virat Kohli, Hardik Pandya, and Kuldeep Yadav. In place of them, Mohammed Shami, Prasidh Krishna, Tilak Varma, Sharudul Thakur, and Suryakumar Yadav have been given a go. Shami will be looking to utilise the opportunity to make his case for playing in the XI for the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 in India.
