Mohammed Shami has been ordered to pay INR 1.5 lakh to Hasin Jahan and INR 2.5 lakh to their daughter.

Indian Cricket Team pacer Mohammed Shami has come under massive trouble as his estranged wife, Hasin Jahan, has made severe allegations against him. She has claimed that the fast bowler refused to provide basic financial support for her and their daughter.

With Hasin Jahan claiming that Mohammed Shami refused to pay her, she took the legal route. The estranged wife of the Indian cricketer took the matter to the Calcutta High Court. She went to the High Court against the 2023 sessions court order that had directed Shami to pay Rs 50,000 to her and Rs 80,000 to their daughter.

However, the order was revised as the High Court noted that Mohammed Shami’s income and financial disclosures indicate he is capable of paying more. Hence, on Tuesday (1st July), the pacer was asked to pay a total of INR 4 lakhs.

Mohammed Shami ordered to pay INR 1.5 lakh to Hasin Jahan and INR 2.5 lakh to their daughter by the Calcutta High Court

Mohammed Shami will now be paying INR 1.5 lakhs to his estranged wife Hasin Jahan and INR 2.5 lakhs to their daughter as part of the interim maintenance. The court order by Justice Ajoy Kumar Mukherjee stated:

“In view of materials placed before me… the quantum of interim monetary relief as fixed by the Court below requires revision. The petitioner’s wife, who has remained unmarried and is living independently with the child, is entitled to a levelled maintenance that she enjoyed during her continuance of marriage and which reasonably secures her future as well as the future of the child.”

Hasin Jahan’s advocate Imtiaz Ahmed also shared his take on the High Court’s verdict, saying: “It was the best moment for Hasin Jahan. From 2018 to 2024, she had been running from pillar to post… Ultimately, it was pronounced in open court yesterday that Rs 1.5 lakh would be provided for Hasin Jahan, Rs 2.5 lakh for the daughter (both to be paid monthly), and that any time the daughter requires assistance, it would be provided by Md Shami.”

“The High Court has directed the trial court to dispose of the main application of the interim order within six months. There is a high chance that when they return to the trial court to conclude the hearing on maintenance, it might be upgraded to Rs 6 lakh because the claim of Hasin Jahan in her maintenance application was for Rs 7 lakh and Rs 3 lakh,” he concluded.
