Mohammed Shami ruled out of ICC T20 World Cup 2024, confirms BCCI secretary Jay Shah

Mohammed Shami has been out of action after the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 due to ankle injury.

Right arm pacer Mohammed Shami is away from the cricketing action since last four months. Shami has not played any cricket match after the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 final. He suffered ankle injury during the India’s World Cup 2023 campaign and had to miss the South Africa tour, test series against England and now he is set to ruled out of the IPL 2024 and ICC T20 World Cup 2024 as well.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah has confirmed that Mohammed Shami will be missing the upcoming Indian Premier League season for Gujarat Titans and he is also set to miss the entire T20 World Cup 2024 scheduled to be played in June this year. Shami is likely to return against Bangladesh in a two-match test series in September.

BCCI secretary provides update on Mohammed Shami’s return timeline

The BCCI secretary Jay Shah, while talking to media, revealed that Mohammed Shami’s is back in India after undergoing surgery and he will rehab soon. Shah said, “Shami surgery is done, he is back in India. Shami’s return is likely for the home series against Bangladesh. KL Rahul needed an injection, he has started rehab and is at the NCA.” KL Rahul also missed the last four test matches against England due to injury.

Right-arm pacer Mohammed Shami travelled to London for surgery. Shami underwent a surgery for Achilles Tendon last month in London. Shami was asked to go for surgery by doctors in December last year. Shami played a vital role in India’s World Cup 2023 campaign in October-November and finished as the leading wicket-taker of the tournament.

KL Rahul also has undergone treatment in London and he is likely to make his comeback in the IPL 2024 for Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). Rahul is expected to join the LSG camp soon. KL Rahul is captain of LSG in the IPL. The IPL 2024 will begin on 22nd March 2024 with defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) taking on Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai.
