Mohammed Shami last played for India in the Champions Trophy 2025.
The Indian Cricket Team will face Afghanistan in a one-off Test and an ODI series next month, following the conclusion of the ongoing Indian Premier League 2026.
India and Afghanistan will lock horns in a one-off test match from June 6 to 10. The venue of the clash is Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in New Chandigarh.
Later, both sides will battle in three ODIs. The opening game will take place on June 14 at HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala. The second game will be played on June 17 at Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow, while the final ODI will take place on June 20 at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
Mohammed Shami to make his test comeback in Afghanistan series- Reports
According to a report by Revsportz, veteran Indian pacer Mohammed Shami is set to make his test comeback in the Afghanistan series. The right-arm pacer last played a test match in the ICC WTC 2021-23 final between India and Australia in June 2023.
Moreover, Shami has been out of the national side for more than a year. He last featured in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 in March, where India won the title.
The selectors have claimed that Shami is suffering from fitness issues; however, he has denied these claims. He impressed with his performance in domestic cricket last year.
The report also added that Sanju Samson can make his comeback in the ODI series against Afghanistan. Samson has been a key member of the T20I team for the last few years and also played in the T20 World Cup earlier this year. Samson’s last ODI game was against South Africa in December 2023.
Meanwhile, both Shami and Samson are playing in IPL 2026. While Shami represents Lucknow Super Giants, Samson is playing for Chennai Super Kings.
