Mohammed Shami clinched a five-wicket haul against Gujarat in Ranji Trophy 2025-26.
Indian Cricket Team pacer Mohammed Shami came up with another fabulous performance in the ongoing Ranji Trophy 2025-26, picking a five-wicket haul against Gujarat on Tuesday, October 28. Following Shami’s brilliant bowling show for his domestic team Bengal, he said that he has a lot of cricket left in him.
Shami captured figures of 3/44 and 5/38 against Gujarat in both innings during the clash, which took place at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. With Shami’s heroics, Bengal defeated Gujarat by 141 runs in the encounter. However, Shahbaz Ahmed was awarded Player of the Match for clinching nine wickets in the encounter.
Notably, Shami also rocked with his bowling show in Bengal’s previous game in the ongoing Ranji Trophy against Uttarakhand, clinching seven wickets across both innings. With his back-to-back successful outings, he has sent a strong message to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) over his non-selection in the Indian Cricket Team.
Recently, Shami was at loggerheads with India’s chief selector Ajit Agarkar over his comeback to the national side. During an event, Agarkar told that the right-arm pacer was not picked in the national team as he wasn’t fit. However, Shami hit back at Agarkar’s comments, asserting that his presence in domestic tournaments like Duleep Trophy and Ranji Trophy proves his fitness. He also mentioned that it was not his job to update selectors about his fitness.
I can clearly feel there’s still a lot of cricket left in me: Mohammed Shami

Speaking to reporters after the match against Gujarat in Ranji Trophy 2025-26, Shami said that there’s a lot of cricket left in him.
“Coming out of a difficult phase and performing well gives a lot of satisfaction. The time after the World Cup was tough and painful. But then I played the Ranji Trophy, white-ball cricket, the IPL, and the Duleep Trophy. Now my rhythm is back to where it was before. I can clearly feel there’s still a lot of cricket left in me,” he said.
When he was asked a question over the controversy with Agarkar during the conference, Shami blamed social media for twisting his statements and making him a villain.
“Yes, I knew this question would come. I’m always in controversy anyway. You people have already made me the villain! What else can I do or say? In today’s world, social media twists everything. My job is to perform well. Wherever I get an opportunity, I’ll give my best. The rest is up to God. Bengal is my home. Every match I play for Bengal is like a memory for me,” he said.
“As far as the pitch is concerned, we had asked for a green wicket. Our pace attack is one of the best in the country, so it’s only fair if we get a good surface to bowl on,” he added.
Meanwhile, the right-arm pacer was not picked for the home test series against West Indies earlier this month. Moreover, he was also overlooked for the ODI series against Australia. The 35-year-old last played for India during ICC Champions Trophy 2025 in March, where he finished as the team’s joint highest wicket-taker along with spinner Varun Chakravarthy.
