Mohammed Siraj played only one match for India in the T20 World Cup 2026.

India’s title defence at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 will witness its biggest challenge on Sunday, as the 2024 finalists will face-off in a blockbuster Super 8 clash. Both teams have been unbeaten, with India playing their second straight match at Ahmedabad, after their win over Netherlands in their final group-stage contest.

One of India’s pace bowlers, Mohammed Siraj, was introduced late into India’s T20 World Cup 2026 squad following Harshit Rana’s injury. He went on to play India’s opening match against USA, and proved to be the pick of the bowlers for the Men in Blue in that clash.

With the new ball at Mumbai’s iconic Wankhede, Siraj claimed a three-fer, dismissing both openers cheaply to dent USA’s run-chase. However, despite his impressive performance, he was dropped with Jasprit Bumrah returning to the playing XI.

Ahead of India’s crucial Super 8 fixture against South Africa at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, the team suffered a major injury scare when backup pacer Mohammed Siraj was injured after being struck by a shot from Hardik Pandya during a training session.

During an intense training session, the Men in Blue pushed themselves hard as they fine-tuned preparations for the crucial upcoming clash. There was a brief scare when Mohammed Siraj walked off, raising concerns within the camp. However, he soon returned to training, much to the relief of the team management and fans.

Reports in Revsportz suggest that Siraj received medical attention but was still not moving freely and appeared to struggle while running after his return. The nature and extent of the injury have not yet been officially disclosed by the BCCI.

Why was Mohammed Siraj added to India’s T20 World Cup squad?

Siraj was drafted into the squad after Harshit Rana sustained an injury during the tournament.
