Mohammed Siraj picked up six wickets against Sri Lanka in the Asia Cup 2023 final.

Indian pace bowler Mohammed Siraj has done an unthinkable job against Sri Lanka in Asia Cup 2023 at R. Premadasa Cricket Stadium in Colombo. Siraj has broken several bowling records with his magnificent bowling spell. Siraj ran through Sri Lankan team as he completed a 5-wickets haul in just his third over. Sri Lankan batters found it tough to face Mohammed Siraj, who was at his brutal best. Jasprit Bumrah started the Sri Lankan collapse by picking up Kusal Perera in the first over.

Then came Siraj, and in his second over, he took four wickets. Even after that, his magnificent spell continued as he kept on giving the Lankans blows. Sri Lankan captain Dasun Shanaka won the toss and elected to bat first in Asia Cup 2023 final. India bundled Sri Lanka for just 50 runs in 15.2 overs and chased down the target in just 6.1 overs to lift their 7th ODI Asia Cup title. Mohammed Siraj finished his spell with 6 wickets for just 21 runs in 7 overs.

Here are the list of records broken by Mohammed Siraj in Asia Cup 2023 final against Sri Lanka:

1. Maiden 5-fer in ODIs & 50 ODI Wickets :

This was Mohammed Siraj’s first 5-wickets haul in ODI cricket. He took just 2.4 overs to complete his maiden 5-wickets haul in the format. Before this, he took two back-to-back 4-wicket hauls in the format, which was his best ODI performance. Siraj picked up four wickets against Sri Lanka in Trivandrum and against New Zealand in Hyderabad earlier this year. Mohammed Siraj also completed his 50 ODI wickets after dismissing Charith Asalanka. Siraj took 29 ODIs to complete this milestone.

2. First Indian bowler to take 4 wickets in an over in ODIs :

Mohammed Siraj joined the company of former Sri Lankan pacer Chaminda Vaas, who picked four wickets in an over in ODIs against Bangladesh in 2003, Mohammad Sami (against New Zealand in 2003), and Adil Rashid (against the West Indies in 2019) to become only the fourth bowler to pick up four wickets in an over in the ODI format. Pathum Nissanka was caught at point by Ravindra Jadeja in the first ball of Siraj’s second over, and then he got back-to-back wickets. Siraj sent Sadeera Samarwickrama and Charith Assalanka in the 3rd and 4th deliveries. Dhananjaya De Silva took his fourth scalp in his third over to complete this record.

3. Joint-fastest 5-fer in ODIs - 16 deliveries :

Mohammed Siraj has equaled Chaminda Vaas once again with his record-breaking spell in Colombo. Siraj has equaled him and Ali Khan for completing the quickest fifer in ODIs. Chaminda Vaas and Ali Khan held the record for completing a 5-wickets haul in just 16 balls. Vaas did it against Bangladesh in the 2003 World Cup, while Ali Khan of USA achieved the feat against Jersey in ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier 2023 match against Jersey. Siraj also completed his fifer in just 16 balls. Ryan Burl is now 4th on this list, as he took 5 wickets against Australia and completed his fifer in just 18 balls. Mohammed Siraj was at his very best against Sri Lanka in the Asia Cup 2023 finals.

Right-arm pacer Mohammed Siraj has bowled the fourth-best bowling spell by an Indian in a one-day international. Siraj picked up six wickets in the game in his seven-over spell. Stuart Binny holds the record for the best bowling figure for India. He bowled a 6/4 spell against Bangladesh in a low-scoring game at Mirpur. Anil Kumble comes in second with a 6/12 against West Indies at Eden Gardens. Jasprit Bumrah holds the third-best bowling figure for India's 6/19 spell against England at The Oval.
