England won the inaugural edition of the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup in 1973.

The ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup is the most celebrated tournament in women’s cricket. To promote women’s cricket, the first edition came into existence in 1973 in England, two years before the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup in 1975.

It is being played once in every four years. A total of 16 teams in women’s cricket have participated in at least one or more ICC Women’s World Cup editions. But when it comes to success, only four teams have tasted the success.

In men’s cricket, Australia have been the most dominant team with six World Cup titles. The same is the case in the Women’s World Cup. In this article, we will talk about teams with the most ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup wins.

4. India – 1 (2025)

In 2025, India became the fourth team to win the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup. They defeated South Africa in the final by 52 runs to lift their maiden title under Harmanpreet Kaur’s captaincy.

They finished at fourth spot in the league stage before defeating Australia in the semi-finals and South Africa in the finals.

3. New Zealand – 1 (2000)

After consecutive semi-final appearances in the first four editions followed by two consecutive final appearances (1993-1997), New Zealand Women were finally able to get their hands on the trophy in 2000. ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2000 ended their long-awaited drought, and it came under the captaincy of Emily Drumm.

They finished the group stage in second position before beating India in the semi-final by nine wickets. In the final, New Zealand faced Australia, which ended up being closer than one would have thought. Batting first, New Zealand were all out for 184 runs. But, their bowlers led the fightback, and they won the game by just four runs and lifted the title in that edition. Since then, New Zealand have not laid their hands on the coveted trophy again.

2. England – 4 (1973, 1993, 2009, 2017)

England were the first-ever country to win the ICC Cricket Women’s World Cup in 1973 at home. Rachael Heyhoe-Flint was the first captain to lift the trophy. England won it after finishing at top of the league stage. England’s second title came in 1993 under Karen Smithies, when they beat New Zealand in the final at the Lord’s.

Then again, after the gap of three editions, England added yet another title in 2009, which was played in Australia. Captain Charlotte Edwards led them to glory, and New Zealand were the runners-up. The fourth title for England Women came under Heather Knight’s captaincy, when they won in 2017 at home, beating India in a thrilling final.

1. Australia – 7 (1978, 1982, 1988, 1997, 2005, 2013, 2022)

Just like in men’s cricket, the Australian side have been the most dominant team in women’s cricket as well. Not one, two, or four, but Australian women have won seven out of 12 editions of the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup. It started with the second edition in 1978, held in India under the captaincy of Margaret Jennings.

They bagged the next two titles in consecutive editions in 1982 and 1988 under the captaincy of Sharon Tredrea. After that, Australia won their fourth title in 1997 in India, beating New Zealand in the final under Belinda Clark’s captaincy. Australia’s fifth title came in 2005 in South Africa under Belinda Clark’s captaincy.

Jodie Fields took Australia to their sixth title in the 2013 edition held in India. They beat West Indies in the final by 114 runs. The seventh title for Australia Women in 2022 came under Meg Lanning’s captaincy in New Zealand, where they defeated England in the final by 71 runs.
