India played their first day-night test in 2019 at the Eden Gardens against Bangladesh.

India played their first-ever day-night match in test cricket in November 2019 at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. They have played four pink-ball tests so far, which includes three home and one away game.

India have a good record in day-night tests, with three wins and one defeat. It has been proven to be a challenge to bat against a pink ball under lights because the pink ball tends to move a bit more in the air and for longer than traditional red balls.

However, there have been a few Indian batsmen who have done well in pink-ball test matches. In this article, we will talk about the five Indians with the most runs in day-night matches in test cricket.

Top five Indian batsmen with most runs in day-night test matches:

5. Cheteshwar Pujara – 98 Runs

Veteran Indian batsman Cheteshwar Pujara played three day-night test matches for India. Even Pujara found it a bit tough to get going.

Pujara scored one fifty in four innings. He scored 98 runs overall in three pink-ball tests at an average of 24.50, with a best of 55 against Bangladesh.

4. Ajinkya Rahane – 100 Runs

Ajinkya Rahane played three day-night encounters for India. In four innings, Rahane scored 100 runs at an average of 25.

Rahane raised one fifty, which came against Australia at the Adelaide Oval, but India lost that match embarrassingly.

3. Shreyas Iyer – 159 Runs

Shreyas Iyer has a very impressive record in day-night test matches. He has played only one pink-ball test, though, which was against Sri Lanka at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bangalore, in 2022.

India won that test by 238 runs and Iyer won the Player of the Match award. He scored fifty in both innings, recording scores of 92 and 67.

2. Rohit Sharma – 173 Runs

Rohit Sharma has a good record in day-night test matches. The right-handed opener has played three such matches in total.

In these, Rohit has scored 173 runs in five outings at an average of 43.25. He has one fifty in a pink-ball test, which is a score of 66 that came against England in Ahmedabad in 2021.

1. Virat Kohli – 277 Runs

Virat Kohli is India’s leading run-scorer in day-night test matches with 277 runs. Kohli is the first and so far only Indian batsman to hit a century in a pink-ball test.

He has played all four day-night test matches for India so far and scored 277 runs in those at an average of 46.16. Kohli has notched up one century and one fifty. His century came against Bangladesh in India’s first day-night game at the Eden Gardens and later he recorded a score of 74 against Australia in Adelaide.
