Only two batters have scored more than 10 test centuries against India.

That is why it is never easy to score runs against India as a batter. There are only eight batters with 2000 or more runs against India in test cricket. However, there have been some players who loved batting against India.

5. Gary Sobers (WI) – 8

Gary Sobers was one of the best all-rounders that the game has produced. A total of 8032 runs, with 26 centuries and 235 wickets in tests, makes a rare combination. He enjoyed his time playing against India. Sobers featured in 18 tests against India and scored eight centuries in 30 innings. He scored a total of 1920 runs at an incredible average of 83.47, with seven fifties.

4. Viv Richards (WI) – 8

Viv Richards is among the most celebrated cricketers of all time. A strong-built lad with the ability to tear down the opposition with swag. There are many stories of Richards dominating the opposition side with the bat. He had a strike rate of over 80 in tests in those days, when scoring 200 runs in a single day was considered a big achievement. Richards enjoyed playing against India and scored 1927 runs in 28 tests at 50.71, including eight centuries and seven half-centuries.

3. Ricky Ponting (AUS) – 8

Ricky Ponting retired with third-most centuries in tests and also in international cricket. He has scored tons of runs against all big oppositions, including India. Against India, Ponting played 29 tests and scored 2555 runs at an average of 54.36. He also scored eight hundreds and 12 half-centuries overall.

2. Steve Smith (AUS) – 11

Steve Smith is among the top batters in test cricket in the current generation, and with the growing rivalry between India and Australia in tests, he has been part of some great battles against India. Smith has a great record against India in the longest format of the game, which features 24 tests, scoring 2356 runs at an average of 58.90. He has scored 11 centuries and five half-centuries against India.

From making his debut to becoming the first batter with 3000+ test runs against India, Joe Root loves this opposition. He has some amazing records against the Indian side and is the leading scorer against them in test cricket. Root has played 35 tests against India so far. In those games, he has scored 3383 runs at an average of over 60, which includes 13 centuries and 12 half-centuries.
