MS Dhoni becomes "7th" batsman to score more than 5000 runs in the IPL

MS Dhoni scored 12 off 3 deliveries to reach the 5000 mark in CSK's 2nd match of the IPL 2023.

One of IPL’s superstars and Chennai’s most favorite MS Dhoni made everyone nostalgic with his two back to back sixes in the final over of CSK innings. Coming in at Number 8, MS Dhoni had only 5 balls to face. Chennai Super Kings captain marked his Chennai comeback memorable with two back to back sixes in his first two balls against Mark Wood. He was out on the third ball while trying to hit another six. With this 3 ball inning, he also touched a milestone in his Indian Premier League career. MS Dhoni completed his 5000 IPL Career runs when he smashed Mark Wood’s bouncer over the square leg for half a dozen.

MS Dhoni - 7th Player to touch 5000 mark in IPL

Before this game, MS Dhoni needed just 8 runs to complete his 5000 in IPL. Dhoni with his second six became 7th player to touch this milestone. Playing for CSK and Rising Pune Super Giants, Dhoni took 208 innings to complete 5000. He has scored these run at a strike rate of 135.53 and had scored 24 half-centuries. MS Dhoni is the only lower middle order batter to touch the 5000 mark in this league. Apart from him, Virat Kohli, Shikhar Dhawan, Rohit Sharma, Suresh Raina, AB de Villiers and David Warner are in this elite list.

Considered as one of the greatest finishers of the game, MS Dhoni had two wonderful games with the bat. Coming in late at number 8 he played an impactful inning against Gujarat Titans as well. He scored 14 runs in 7 balls to help CSK accelerate in the final two overs. Though he was born in Ranchi, Dhoni has become the most beloved son of Chennai. It is only his love for Cricket and Chennai he keeps going season after season at this age.

Chennai with a superb top order batting performance had posted a huge total against Lucknow. Ruturaj Gaikwad once showcased his talent and smashed a magnificent half-century. He scored 57 runs in 31 balls smashing 3 fours and 4 sixes.
