MS Dhoni took over CSK’s captaincy midway through the ongoing IPL 2025.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) skipper MS Dhoni dropped a massive hint about his retirement ahead of CSK’s last match in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) season. He admitted that he is in the last stage of his career.

Chennai Super Kings are currently locking horns with Gujarat Titans (GT) in their last game of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. The match between the two teams is taking place at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday (25th May).

This probably is the last time that MS Dhoni is captaining in the IPL. The keeper-batter was handed the captaincy of the CSK midway through the ongoing season after regular skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad was ruled out of the tournament due to an elbow injury.

Although MS Dhoni hasn’t been able to bring success to CSK with his leadership this year, he has made sure that he builds the team for the next year. But, there have been a lot of speculations about his future in the league, and many even believe that the ongoing game against GT might be his last.

During the toss of the ongoing GT vs CSK clash, Ravi Shastri, who was the host broadcaster, didn’t directly ask if this would be MS Dhoni’s final season; he asked the keeper-batter about his fitness, and he indirectly dropped a hint about his future.

It is the last stage of my career – MS Dhoni drops a massive retirement hint

MS Dhoni admitted that his body needs a lot of maintenance as he is in the last stage of his career. He also opened up about how his body is surviving, with every year of the IPL bringing a different challenge. Speaking at Toss, he said:

“My body is surviving. Every year is a new challenge. It needs a lot of maintenance. It is the last stage of my career. Didn’t trouble me enough when I was playing international cricket.”

MS Dhoni also admitted that they will gain nothing from the game against Gujarat Titans as they will end the IPL 2025 at last in the table. He added:

“We are last in the table, we will still remain last, if win or lose. Need to enjoy our cricket. We have one change. Hooda is back for Ashwin. They are a good side, they play authentic cricket. Need to bowl tight lines, otherwise the batters will punish you.”

Chennai Super Kings had a torrid time in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. The five-time champions struggled in all three departments of the game and so far, have managed just three wins in the tournament. The MS Dhoni-led side would be keen to end the season on a high and come back stronger next year.
