MS Dhoni captained CSK in IPL 2025 after Ruturaj Gaikwad was ruled out midway through the tournament.
Former India captain MS Dhoni has broken his silence on his future in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Dhoni’s retirement from IPL has been a talking point for the last few seasons. However, the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) stalwart has continued his journey in the tournament over the years.
Ahead of IPL 2024, Dhoni handed CSK’s captaincy to Ruturaj Gaikwad. However, Gaikwad sustained an elbow injury in IPL 2025 and was ruled out of the tournament after playing five games. After that, Dhoni captained the side. However, the Men in Yellow didn’t have a great campaign, failing to qualify for the playoffs.
The five-time champions finished at the last spot in the points table with eight points and failed to qualify for the playoffs for the second consecutive season. Out of 14 games, CSK won four matches and lost 10 encounters.
I will always be in a yellow jersey: MS Dhoni

While speaking during an event in Chennai, Dhoni said that he has a lot of time to decide on his comeback in IPL 2026. He also expressed his love for CSK and said that he will always wear the yellow jersey.
“I have always said that there is a lot of time for me to decide, but if you are asking about coming back in a yellow jersey, I will always be in a yellow jersey, whether I am playing or not, is a different matter,” he said.
“Me and CSK, we are together. You know even for the next 15-20 years. I hope they don’t think I’ll be playing for another 15-20 years,” he added.
Recently, Dhoni said that Gaikwad’s return will solidify CSK’s batting next season.
Dhoni has been part of CSK since the inaugural edition of the IPL in 2008. Under his captaincy, the team has won five IPL titles. In IPL 2025, Dhoni mustered 196 runs in 13 innings at a strike rate of 135.17.
