MS Dhoni is one of the four players to play in all 18 seasons of the IPL.
MS Dhoni made his much-awaited debut on the podcast scene. In a conversation with Raj Shamani, the well-known content creator, Dhoni talked about his retirement rumors from the Indian Premier League (IPL).
The podcast footage of the former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain has gone viral on social media amid mounting rumors that he is retiring from the IPL.
CSK lost their third game of IPL 2025 in a row on Saturday, April 5. They lost to Delhi Capitals (DC) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. There were rumors that MS Dhoni was retiring before the game, particularly when his parents were seen at the stadium.
MS Dhoni has not been in the prime form for the past two IPL seasons. He has batted lower down the order at No. 8 or 9 and has not been hitting the ball like he used to. In the ongoing IPL 2025, MS Dhoni has scored 76 runs with a best of 33*, but those runs have come in losing causes.
In CSK’s recent defeat to DC in Chennai, when his team was chasing 189 runs to win, MS Dhoni entered at number seven to thunderous applause from the Chepauk crowd. For the sixth wicket, he and Vijay Shankar compiled an undefeated partnership of 84 runs off 57 balls.
Dhoni was not out at 30 off 26 balls, but Shankar hit 69* off 54 balls. Delhi achieved their third consecutive victory as CSK concluded at 158/5.
I’m taking one year at a time – MS Dhoni opens up on retirement plans
MS Dhoni was questioned about his IPL retirement during the Raj Shamani podcast. Dhoni stated that he is taking it as it comes and has no plans to retire from the competition.
Dhoni stated that he would decide his future only after the current season concludes. He said that his body’s reaction is just as important as his conscious decision. The wicket-keeper batter also stated that he is concentrating on the current IPL season.
“No, not right now. I am still playing the IPL. I have kept it very simple: I take it one year at a time. I am 43; by the time IPL 2025 finishes, I will be 44, so after that, I have 10 months to decide if I will play or not. But it is not me deciding, it is my body that decides. So, one year at a time, we will see after that,” MS Dhoni said in the podcast.
