MS Dhoni is one of the seven players inducted into ICC Hall of Fame 2025.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) inducted MS Dhoni and six other cricketers into the ICC Hall of Fame on Monday, June 9. Other than Dhoni, four men’s cricketers and two women’s cricketers have earned an entry into the ICC Hall of Fame this year.

Hashim Amla, Graeme Smith, Daniel Vettori, and Matthew Hayden are the other men’s cricketers, while Sana Mir and Sarah Taylor are the women’s cricketers added to the ICC Hall of Fame in 2025. Notably, Dhoni has become the ninth Indian men’s cricketer to be added to the list.

Former Indian legends Sachin Tendulkar, Sunil Gavaskar, Rahul Dravid, Kapil Dev, Vinoo Mankad, Virender Sehwag, Anil Kumble, and Bishen Singh Bedi are part of the ICC Hall of Fame. Two women’s cricketers from India – Diana Edulji and Neetu David – are also part of the elite list.

It is something that I will cherish forever- MS Dhoni

After earning the recognition, Dhoni said it was an honour to be named in the ICC Hall of Fame and it’s something he will cherish forever.

“It is an honour to be named in the ICC Hall of Fame, which recognises the contributions of cricketers across generations and from all over the world. To have your name remembered alongside such all-time greats is a wonderful feeling. It is something that I will cherish forever,” the 43-year-old told.

The former wicket-keeper batter led India to three ICC trophies under his captaincy. The MS Dhoni-led side won the ICC T20 World Cup in 2007, ICC ODI World Cup in 2011, and ICC Champions Trophy in 2013. In 2009, the Indian Cricket Team became the top-ranked test team under his captaincy.

Dhoni, who is often hailed as the best Indian captain to date, played 90 tests, 350 ODIs, and 98 T20Is for India. He smacked 4876 runs in tests and 10,773 runs in ODIs. The former India captain finished his career in the shortest format with 1617 runs.

The wicket-keeper also stormed 16 centuries in international cricket, out of which, six came in tests while 10 arrived in ODIs. He also hammered one test double ton – a 244-run knock against Australia in 2013.

Having played his last international match in ICC Cricket World Cup 2019, Dhoni retired from international cricket in August 2020. However, he is still active in franchise T20 cricket. He represents Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the Indian Premier League (IPL). He also captained CSK in IPL 2025 in the absence of their regular skipper.
