MS Dhoni recalls IPL 2023 final, says "Looked like it was God's script."
MS Dhoni led Chennai Super Kings to their championship title in the IPL 2023.
Chennai Super Kings scripted history in the IPL 2023 when they lifted their 5th Indian Premier League title. MS Dhoni equalled Mumbai Indians' skipper Rohit Sharma in winning the most IPL titles in history. This was seen as MS Dhoni’s final game in competitive cricket, but the love and affection he got during IPL 2023 prompted him to announce after the finals that he would be coming back for one more season for CSK.
IPL 2023 final was one of the most memorable finishes as the game went till the last ball and Ravindra Jadeja won it for Chennai Super Kings, scoring one six and a four when they needed 10 of the last two balls. Chennai Super Kings needed 171 runs in 15 overs to lift the title as the start of the second innings was delayed by rain and CSK had lost 5 overs due to persistent rain after Gujarat Titans' innings. CSK Skipper MS Dhoni termed it a fairy-tale finish.
MS Dhoni revisits IPL 2023 finals
MS Dhoni, while talking about the finals, said that it looked like the finals was scripted by God. Dhoni said, “It looked like it was very well scripted by God. You know, because it didn’t start on time. It was the only final that went on for three days. Then they scored the kind of runs they scored. The best thing that would have happened was that we would have gotten the target before the start of the innings, and that’s literally what happened."
IPL 2023 final was originally scheduled to be played on May 28th, but due to rain in Ahmedabad, it was shifted to a reserve day (May 29th). The game started on time the next day, but as soon as Gujarat Titans finished their innings, it started raining in Ahmedabad, which resulted in Chennai losing 5 overs from their 20. The final went on until 1 AM on May 30. This was the first time in history that an IPL final was extended to three days.
MS Dhoni added, “Whenever we want a boundary, we get it. So, it was more like a script. If not a six, a minimum of four, somebody hit a four. Everything was going according to plan until the end. We are very happy that Jadeja scored the runs that we needed.” CSK needed 13 runs in the last over. Mohit Sharma conceded just three runs in the first four deliveries, but then Ravindra Jadeja took charge and scored a six and a four to win the game for Chennai Super Kings.
