MS Dhoni reveals his relationship with opponent players in IPL
MS Dhoni will play his final IPL season for Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2024.
Chennai Super Kings won their record fifth title in the IPL 2023. Captain MS Dhoni was expected to announce his retirement from professional cricket after the final against Gujarat Titans but he surprised everyone once again with his promise to play one more season only for fans. Dhoni’s Chennai will play the curtain raiser of the IPL 2024 against Royal Challengers Bangalore at Chepauk on 22nd March.
MS Dhoni has explained that the Indian Premier League provide an opportunity to know each player in the tournament. Chennai Super Kings is one of the most successful teams in the league and have tasted a lot of success compared to others. MS Dhoni talked about the first ever batch of Chennai Super Kings which had the big foreign players Mathew Hayden and Muttiah Muralidaran.
‘IPL helped in understanding foreign players’
In a video released by Star Sports, MS Dhoni talked about the first batch of CSK and said, “The Chennai team that played in 2008 was a well-balanced team and had a lot of all-rounders. The team had a vast pool of experienced players such as Mathew Hayden, Mike Hussey, Muttiah Muralidaran, Makhaya Ntini and Jacob Oram, to get them all together in one dressing room and get to know each other was a challenge.”
MS Dhoni added that as a leader he had a big responsibility of understanding each individual and be aware about each individuals strength and weakness. Dhoni added, “I always believed that when you are leading a team, it is important to make sure you understand each other. Once you know the individual, you know his strength and weaknesses, it becomes easier as a team to move in the right direction.”
The Chennai skipper also added that the IPL helped him understand a lot of foreign players and their mindset. Dhoni said, “I wasn’t somebody who talked about a lot to the opposition players, but IPL provided an opportunity to know about the players.” Chennai Super Kings skipper MS Dhoni won the Indian Premier League title five times, they won IPL 2010, 2011, 2018, 2021 and 2023.
