WPL 2026 will run from January 9 to February 5.

After three successful seasons, the Women’s Premier League 2026 commenced on January 9 in Navi Mumbai with a clash between defending champions Mumbai Indians and Season 2 champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru.

After a spectacular start to the season, fans might experience some disappointment for a few days. According to reports, the upcoming municipal elections in Mumbai might impact the WPL 2026. It is expected that some matches will be played without spectators.

In the tournament opener, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) Women stunned defending champions Mumbai Indians (MI) Women by three wickets. The opening leg of the tournament is taking place at Dr DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai.

Four matches have taken place at the venue so far. On Sunday, Gujarat Giants defeated Delhi Capitals (DC) Women by four runs. Currently, the Giants are at the top of the points table with four points, having won both of their two matches.

Navi Mumbai is scheduled to host matches till January 17. Later, the tournament will witness the second leg at BCA Stadium in Vadodara.

According to a report by ESPN Cricinfo, some matches of the tournament may be affected due to the municipal elections being held in Mumbai. Three games are expected to be played behind closed doors.

Mumbai police have refused to provide security at the stadium during elections. Consequently, the matches scheduled to be played on January 14, 15, and 16 are expected to be played without spectators.

If BCCI imposes a ban on spectators and plays the matches on election days, the matches set to be affected by the decision are the UP Warriorz vs Delhi Capitals match on January 14, the Mumbai Indians vs UP Warriorz clash on January 15, and the Royal Challengers Bengaluru vs Gujarat Giants encounter on January 16.

Moreover, the official online platform of WPL has not listed ticket sales for all three matches to be played on these dates. However, the tickets for the doubleheader games on January 17 have sold out.

Meanwhile, in the next WPL 2026 match on Monday, RCB Women will face UP Warriorz Women, January 12, at DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai.
