Mushfiqur Rahim made his test debut in 2005.

The first test between Bangladesh and South Africa is being played at the Shere Bangla National Stadium, Dhaka. Bangladesh are under the pump after the end of the second day.

They are trailing by 101 runs and have seven wickets in hand in their second innings. Mushfiqur Rahim is unbeaten on 31 off 26 while Mahmudul Hasan Joy has fought hard for his 80-ball 38*.

After 16 wickets fell on the first day, seven batters were dismissed on the second day of the test. South Africa are in the diver’s seat and are looking set to clinch the Dhaka test.

Earlier, Bangladesh were bowled out for just 106 in the first innings. South Africa reached 308 with the help of a brilliant century from Kyle Verreynne (114) and took the 202-run first-inning lead.

Bangladesh started the second innings with a deficit of 202 runs. They lost the first two wickets for just four runs. After that, Monimul and captain Najmul Hossain Shanto (23 off 49) added 55 runs for the third wicket.

But Bangladesh’s captain couldn’t bat for long and got out. It brought Mushfiqur Rahim to the crease, and he attacked the South African bowlers to play a brilliant unbeaten cameo. Rahim scored a 26-ball 31* at a strike rate of 119.23.

The partnership for the fourth wicket is 42* off 50 by stumps on Day 2. During his stay at the crease, Rahim achieved a big landmark on the second day.

Mushfiqur Rahim completed 6,000 test runs and became the first Bangladeshi batsman to reach this feat. Rahim has now scored 6003 runs into his 93rd test at an average of 38.48. The right-hander has so far notched up 11 centuries and 27 fifties in his test career so far.

It has been a good last few seasons for the veteran batter. He also went past Shakib Al Hasan to become Bangladesh’s leading scorer in international cricket. Apart from him, Tamim Iqbal (5134) is only the second batter with more than 5000 test runs for Bangladesh.

Shakib Al Hasan (4609), Mominul Haque (4269), and Habibul Bashar (3026) are the next three batters on the list.
