"Mystery for me": Harbhajan Singh on why 2011 WC winning team never played together again

India's World Cup 2011 final XI never played a match together.

Following their triumph against Sri Lanka in the final at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai in April 2011, where they secured a remarkable six-wicket victory, India claimed their second ODI World Cup title. Nevertheless, the exact same XI players who achieved this historic feat never reunited on the field for India in subsequent matches. This was primarily due to a combination of injuries and a decline in form among some of the players, leading to changes in the team composition in the matches that followed.

In a conversation with News24 Sports, Harbhajan Singh was queried about the reason behind the 2011 World Cup final team never reuniting for India in subsequent matches. In response to the question, he provided an explanation:

I don't know that. They were probably used till the World Cup only and it's a mystery for me as well why that team never assembled again even for one match, which is very surprising. I wish things could be taken back and rectified."

Harbhajan Singh's Desire for Reunion

During the interaction, the former Indian spinner was also asked if he would be interested in playing a match alongside the rest of the team members now. In reply to this query, he responded:

"It will be good if we come together and play a game. It will be great fun but very unfortunate that the team didn't assemble again and didn't play another tournament or even one match."

Seeking Answers to Selection Puzzle

Harbhajan Singh raised a poignant question regarding why the 2011 World Cup-winning team wasn't deemed good enough for further opportunities thereafter, expressing his concern by saying:

"It is beyond my understanding that the team was very good until we won the 2011 World Cup but suddenly so many changes in that team after that. People who were winning games, they were no more good."
