Former PCB chief Najam Sethi brutally slams BCCI for continuous demand of changes in ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 schedule
ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 is scheduled to begin on 5th October in Ahmedabad.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 schedule 100 days before the start of the tournament. After that, they made changes to the original schedule just a few days ago to accommodate the requests from state authorities as well as from the full ICC members. On Sunday, the Hyderabad Cricket Association authorities demanded more changes once again as they will be hosting two back-to-back games on October 9 and 10. Raising security and logistical concerns, they have asked to make a few more changes to the schedule. Now, after all the developments, Former PCB chief Najam Sethi has brutally attacked the BCCI.
Najam Sethi tweet slamming BCCI
Former Pakistan Cricket Board chief Najam Sethi, while talking about the continuous demand for schedule changes in the World Cup, said that the BCCI should have taken his advice before preparing the schedule. Najam Sethi tweeted, “BCCI should have taken my advice re Pakistan playing their WC game in a neutral country. They are now in a mess with schedule tweaks being proposed every few days.” First, Gujarat authorities pushed for a change in the India vs. Pakistan game in Ahmedabad, as it was scheduled for October 15, the first day of Navratri. The BCCI did make a change, and now the India vs. Pakistan clash will happen on October 14.
Along with India vs Pakistan, nine other games were rescheduled, with Pakistan cricket team being the biggest beneficiary of the schedule change. Earlier on the day, a Hyderabad Cricket Association official told PTI, “I can’t say it would be changed for sure because back-to-back games are not ideal. I mean, if they (BCCI) are reconsidering, that will be well. We will have to work with the agencies. Anyone would want a day in between two World Cup games. We are still engaging with security agencies to see if this is possible or not. At the same time, we are also keeping the BCCI on loop.”
BCCI vice president Rajiv Shukla has expressed that it will be unlikely to change the schedule now that there are only a few weeks left for the tournament. Rajiv Shukla said, “I am in charge of the Hyderabad venue for the World Cup. If there will be any issues or anything. I will try to get it resolved. It is not easy to change the World Cup schedule, and it’s unlikely to happen. Only the BCCI can’t change schedules, teams, or the ICC, all involved in the process.” Hyderabad will be hosting the three main event games along with the warm-up matches. The World Cup 2023 is scheduled to begin on October 5 with the defending champions taking on New Zealand at Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium in Ahmedabad.
