PM Narendra Modi said that India Women’s victory will motivate future champions to take up sports.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated India Women following their victory in ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 final against South Africa Women. The Indian Prime Minister hailed the Harmanpreet for their triumph, saying that the victory will motivate future generations to take up sports.

Led by Harmanpreet Kaur, India Women defeated South Africa Women by 52 runs in the thrilling final on Sunday, November 2. After being asked to bat first, they posted 298/7, with half-centuries by Shafali Verma (87) and Deepti Sharma (58)

Later, they ended South Africa Women’s innings on 246 runs, with Deepti playing a key role in the victory with her five-wicket haul. Laura Wolvaardt’s (101) outstanding century went in vain as other Proteas batters failed to support her.

Notably, India Women scripted history by winning their first-ever ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup. They reached the final of the prior editions in 2005 and 2017, however, they ended as runners-up on both occasions. This time, they left no stone unturned to steal the tag of World Cup champions.
