Top 5 New Zealand batsmen with most centuries (100) in ODI cricket

Only four New Zealand batsmen have hit over 10 hundreds in ODI cricket.
New Zealand have emerged as one of the most consistent teams in international cricket over the last two decades. The Kiwis started the 21st century on a positive note by winning the ICC Knockout Trophy (now ICC Champions Trophy) in 2000.
Their journey since then has been impressive, but without any major trophy. They came very close to winning the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019, but lost the final on boundary count after the Super Over ended in a tie.
New Zealand batsmen have played a crucial role in consistently piling up runs to put their team in winning positions in ODI cricket. In this article, we will look at the top five New Zealand batsmen with the most centuries in ODI cricket.
Top five New Zealand batsmen with most centuries in ODI cricket:
5. Stephen Fleming – 8 centuries
Legendary New Zealand captain Stephen Fleming retired with eight centuries in ODI cricket. Playing as a top-order batsman for most of his career, Fleming was one of the most gritty players of his time.
Making his debut in 1994, the southpaw scored 8037 runs in 269 innings at an average of 32.4 and a strike rate of 71.5. He also hit 49 half-centuries in the format.
His highest ODI score of 134 runs came against South Africa in Johannesburg during the 2003 World Cup.
4. Kane Williamson – 15 centuries
Arguably the greatest New Zealand batsman, Kane Williamson is next on the list with 15 centuries. Making his international debut in 2010, Williamson was named Player of the Tournament for his outstanding batting in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019.
Williamson works as a glue in the New Zealand lineup, binding their explosive batting order together. His ability to rotate the strike regularly makes him a valuable asset for the team. Kane also has scored most test tons for New Zealand.
He has so far scored 7,122 ODI runs at an average of 49.11.
3. Nathan Astle – 16 centuries
Best known for his smooth gameplay on the off side, Nathan Astle recorded 16 centuries in 217 ODI innings. Batting in the top order, Astle was often tasked with taking on the fast bowlers during the initial overs.
The right-hander scored 7,090 ODI runs in his career at an average of 34.92 and a strike rate of 72.64. His last appearance in ODI cricket came in 2007 against England.
2. Martin Guptill – 18 centuries
One of New Zealand’s most successful ODI openers, Martin Guptill has 18 ODI centuries to his name. He played 195 innings, scoring 7,346 runs at an average of 41 and a strike rate of 87.
Guptill was part of one of New Zealand’s most heartbreaking moments, as he was run out on the final ball of the Super Over in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 final.
His highest individual score in the format came in the quarter-final of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 against West Indies, where he smashed 237* runs off 163 balls.
1. Ross Taylor – 21 centuries
Ross Taylor holds the record for scoring most ODI centuries for New Zealand. Taylor registered 21 ODI centuries in 220 innings. He also piled up 8607 runs at an average of 47.55 and a strike rate of 83.22.
Mostly batting at No. 4 in the lineup, Taylor had the ability to rotate the strike and hit big shots towards the end of the innings. His exceptional play against spin, particularly with the slog sweep, helped him achieve success in Asia.
