New Zealand Cricket (NZC) on Monday, 20th October, announced a 14-member squad for the ODI series against England Cricket Team. Senior players Kane Williamson and Tom Latham have made a comeback after a long gap for the ODI series, which will witness a total of three matches.
Williamson and Latham last played for New Zealand during the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 final against India in March. While Williamson has been recovering from a minor medical issue since last month, Latham has been rehabilitating from an injury on his left shoulder that he sustained earlier this year.
Seam-bowling all-rounder Nathan Smith is another player who has joined the squad since his last appearance in ICC Champions Trophy 2025 final. Smith has been recovering from an abdominal injury that he sustained last month during the test series against Zimbabwe.
Mitchell Santner will lead the 14-member experienced squad for the ODI series against England, which has only one player Zak Foulkes, who wasn’t part of ICC Champions Trophy campaign. Finn Allen (foot), Lockie Ferguson (hamstring), Adam Milne (ankle), Will O’Rourke (back), Mohammad Abbas (ribs), Glenn Phillips (groin), and Ben Sears (hamstring) were unavailable for the ODI series due to their injuries.

Kane Williamson, Nathan Smith, and Tom Latham’s return is fantastic, feels New Zealand coach

BlackCaps coach Rob Walter welcomed Williamson, Smith, and Latham’s return to the national side.
“Kane and Nathan have had to work hard to overcome their respective injuries and illness. We all know what Kane means to the BLACKCAPS – to have his skill, experience and leadership back in the group is fantastic. Nathan’s still relatively new to his international career, but he’s impressed with his all-round skills and ability in the field,” he said.
“Tom is a great leader of this group, both on and off the field. Having his experience and someone who has been a consistent performer for the team is fantastic,” he added.
Meanwhile, New Zealand and England are currently locking horns in a T20I series comprising three games. The opening game on October 18 was affected by rain after first innings and ended without a result. The next two games will be played on October 20 and 23.
