New Zealand cricket have produced some amazing talents from their U19 ranks who eventually graduated to represent the senior men’s team. These budding stars showcased their potential and skills at the U19 World Cup, earning the coveted opportunity to don the Black Caps jersey on the international stage.

Over the years, some of these promising youngsters have transitioned into becoming key players for New Zealand, leaving an indelible mark on the senior men’s cricket team. This journey reflects not only the robust talent pool in New Zealand cricket but also the nation’s commitment to nurturing and developing its cricketing prodigies for global competitions.

6. Kane Williamson (2008)

Kane Williamson led New Zealand’s U19 World Cup squad in 2008 and showcased his skills with a contribution of 124 runs in five matches. Making his international debut in 2010, Williamson has become a pillar of New Zealand cricket.

He has played 96 tests, amassing 8263 runs with 29 centuries, 165 ODIs scoring 6810 runs with 13 centuries and 88 T20Is accumulating 2521 runs so far. His journey from the U19 World Cup to being a prolific batter and captain of New Zealand underscores his remarkable cricketing career.

Tim Southee showcased his bowling skills at the 2008 U19 World Cup, taking an impressive 17 wickets in five matches. Making his debut in 2008, Southee has evolved to become a key figure in New Zealand cricket. With a stellar record, he has participated in 96 tests, claiming 374 wickets and contributing with 2059 runs.

In ODIs. Southee has taken 221 wickets in 161 matches and in T20Is, he has scalped 151 wickets in 118 appearances so far. His impactful journey from U19 level to a seasoned international cricketer reflects his significant contributions to New Zealand’s cricketing success.

4. Trent Boult (2008) :

Trent Boult, a member of the 2008 New Zealand U19 World Cup squad, displayed his bowling skills by taking 11 wickets in five matches. He made his international debut in 2011, Boult has since become a prominent figure in New Zealand cricket.

In test cricket, he has taken 317 wickets in 78 matches, while in ODIs, he has scalped 211 wickets in 114 appearances. Additionally, in T20Is, Boult has taken 74 wickets in 55 matches so far.

3. Tom Latham (2010)

Tom Latham participated at the 2010 U19 World Cup, contributing with 137 runs in six matches. His journey continued as he made his international debut in 2012. In test cricket, Latham has accumulated 5201 runs in 76 matches, showcasing his batting skills.

Additionally, in ODIs, he has scored 4099 runs in 147 appearances, while in T20Is, Latham has contributed with 516 runs in 26 matches so far. Latham’s consistent performances highlight his valuable contributions to New Zealand cricket across formats.

2. Ish Sodhi (2012)

Sodhi has since become a key figure in New Zealand’s bowling attack, amassing 57 wickets in 20 tests, 63 wickets in 51 ODIs and 127 wickets in 106 T20Is so far.

Rachin Ravindra made a substantial impact at the 2018 U19 World Cup, demonstrating his proficiency in both batting and bowling. He amassed a notable total of 233 runs in six matches, highlighting his skills with the bat. Additionally, Ravindra showcased his bowling abilities by taking 13 wickets.

His impressive performances in domestic cricket earned him an international debut in 2021. Ravindra has since become a valuable asset for New Zealand, featuring in 25 ODIs and amassing 820 runs. Additionally, he has participated in three tests and 18 T20Is so far, demonstrating his adaptability across various formats of the game. He had a great 50-over World Cup in 2024 for New Zealand and was the fourth highest run-scorer of the tournament.
