Nicholas Pooran represented West Indies Cricket Team in 61 ODIs and 106 T20Is.

West Indies cricketer Nicholas Pooran, on Monday, 9th June, shocked the world as he announced his retirement from international cricket. The left-handed batsman revealed his decision to fans through social media. His retirement, at the age of just 29 years, has surprised the cricket fraternity.

Pooran has been one of the dominant batsmen in white-ball cricket till date for the West Indies. The left-handed batsman is quite popular for his hard-hitting batting style and high strike rate. He did not play a single test match, but represented the national team in 61 ODIs and 106 T20Is.

The 29-year-old mustered 1983 runs in 58 innings in ODIs at an average of 39.66. He also stormed 11 half-centuries and three centuries. With 13 fifties in the shortest format, Pooran mustered 2275 runs in 97 innings at a strike rate of 136.40 and a batting average of 26.15. He retired as the most-capped player and also the highest run-scorer for the West Indies in T20Is.

The left-handed batter took to Instagram to inform his fans about his retirement from international cricket. He shared a post to announce his decision and thanked fans for their support over the years. He also mentioned that it was a difficult call for him.

“After much thought and reflection, I’ve decided to announce my retirement from international cricket. This game we love has given and will continue to give so much- joy, purpose, unforgettable memories, and a chance to represent the people of the West Indies,” he wrote in the post.

Cricket West Indies (CWI) bid farewell to Pooran in an official statement. They termed him a world-class player and a game changer.

“Nicholas officially informed the leadership of his decision to retire from international cricket, bringing to a close a significant chapter in his career,” the statement read.

“A world-class player and a game changer, Nicholas leaves the game as the most capped West Indian in T20 Internationals with 106 matches and the leading T20I run scorer with 2,275 runs. His performances on the field and influence within the team have made a lasting impact on West Indies cricket,” the statement further added.

Meanwhile, Pooran was recently part of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. He represented Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the tournament, who failed to qualify for the playoffs. He slammed 524 runs in 14 games to finish as the second highest run-scorer for his team. At a stunning strike rate of 196.25, the LSG batter slammed five fifties in the season.
