There hasn't been a captain like MS Dhoni and will never be one like him: Sunil Gavaskar
Sunil Gavaskar Hails MS Dhoni as the Best Captain in IPL History after his Record-breaking 200th Match as Chennai Super Kings captain
According to Sunil Gavaskar, Chennai Super Kings' skipper MS Dhoni is the finest captain in the history of the Indian Premier League.
“There hasn't been a captain like him and will never be one like him in future", Gavaskar said.
Mahendra Singh Dhoni made history on April 12th by becoming the first player in IPL history to captain a team in 200 matches in the IPL. Leading Chennai Super Kings against Rajasthan Royals in Chennai, the 41-year-old former Indian captain achieved this feat despite their three-run defeat.
Dhoni is a different kind of captain, there will never be one like him: Gavaskar
Sunil Gavaskar has recently praised Chennai Super Kings and their captain MS Dhoni for their ability to handle tough situations in the Indian Premier League. According to Gavaskar, CSK have been able to consistently come out on top during difficult matches thanks to Dhoni's leadership. Gavaskar acknowledged that captaining 200 matches is no easy feat, and that it could have potentially affected Dhoni's own performance. However, he also noted that Dhoni's unique style of captaincy and his ability to remain calm under pressure set him apart from other captains.
"CSK know how to get out of tough situations. This has been possible only under MS Dhoni's captaincy. Captaining 200 matches is very difficult. Captaining so many matches is a burden and it could have affected his performance as well," Gavaskar, himself a former India captain, said.
"But Mahi is different. He is a different captain. There hasn't been a captain like him and there will never be one like him in the future," said Gavaskar in a release from IPL broadcasters.
Excluding the two seasons (2016-17) when the Chennai Super Kings franchise was suspended due to the involvement of their officials in illegal activities, Mahendra Singh Dhoni has been associated with the team since the beginning of IPL. Although he led the now-defunct Rising Pune Supergiants in 14 matches during the 2016 season, his total number of matches as captain stands at 214.
Dhoni's leadership has been instrumental in CSK's triumph as IPL champions on four occasions. As of April 12th, his record as CSK skipper stood at 120 wins, 79 losses, and one no-result.
Gavaskar credits Kohli for RCB's impressive start in IPL 2023
Sunil Gavaskar had kind words not only for Mahendra Singh Dhoni's captaincy but also for Virat Kohli, who has been instrumental in providing a flying start to Royal Challengers Bangalore in their matches this season.
"Virat Kohli is giving RCB flying starts at the start of the innings. He deserves a lot of credit for the starts RCB is getting and the runs the team is managing to post on the board because of his starts. These are good signs for RCB."
On Monday, 17th April, Royal Challengers Bangalore will host Chennai Super Kings in the 24th match of the IPL 2023.
