Bangladesh government recently lifted the ban on IPL 2026 in their country.
The Indian Premier League (IPL) is one of the most watched cricket leagues in the world. It has a massive fan base across South Asia. Bangladesh is also a key market where the league enjoys huge popularity. Fans in the country closely follow IPL matches every season, and there was a lot of buzz for the ongoing season as well.
However, the relationship between India and Bangladesh in cricket has seen some tension in recent months. These issues have affected decisions around bilateral tours and big tournaments. There have also been concerns linked to politics and player participation.
Earlier this year, there was confusion over whether IPL matches would be telecasted in Bangladesh. Different statements from officials created uncertainty. Now, a major development has made the situation clear for the 2026 season.
JioHotstar ends deal with TSports, no IPL 2026 television broadcast in Bangladesh

The situation had become complicated after Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) released Bangladeshi pacer Mustafizur Rahman. This move came during rising tensions between the two countries. Soon after, Bangladesh stopped IPL broadcasts in January.
The Bangladesh government recently lifted the ban on IPL 2026 in their country, and it was expected that the league would be telecasted there. However, as per the reports in Times of India, Indian media giant JioHotstar has officially ended its broadcasting agreement in Bangladesh.
The deal was signed with local sports channel TSports for IPL rights from 2023 to 2027. According to reports, the agreement was terminated due to payment issues. JioHotstar in a statement said TSports failed to follow the agreed payment schedule. Because of this, the contract was cancelled with immediate effect.
This decision means there is currently no official broadcaster for IPL 2026 in Bangladesh. Despite the government lifting its earlier restrictions, without the main broadcaster the matches will not get televised unless a new deal is signed.
There were later talks about reviewing the ban. Some officials suggested the decision could change. But JioHotstar’s termination has now created a bigger hurdle.
IPL 2026 kicked off on March 28. But fans in Bangladesh may miss the entire season. The lack of a broadcasting partner has left the viewers in the country disappointed.
Why is IPL 2026 not being broadcasted in Bangladesh?
Because JioHotstar ended its deal with TSports due to payment defaults.
Can the IPL 2026 still return to television in Bangladesh?
Yes, but only if a new broadcaster signs a fresh deal.
