Jofra Archer was included in England squad for the second test against India in Birmingham.
England Cricket Team and India Cricket Team will lock horns in the second test of the five-match test series at Edgbaston, Birmingham. The encounter is scheduled to commence on July 2. The hosts have announced their playing XI for the match.
Notably, England have announced an unchanged XI for the second test against India for the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. Jofra Archer, who returned to England’s test squad after four years, couldn’t find a place in the team sheet.
Archer last played a test match in February 2021 against India. Since then he has been out of test cricket action due to multiple injuries. Recently, he made his First Class (FC) cricket comeback playing for Sussex in County Championship 2025.
England reveal playing XI for second test without Jofra Archer
England playing XI for second test: Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett, Ollie Pope, Joe Root, Harry Brook, Ben Stokes (C), Jamie Smith (WK), Chris Woakes, Brydon Carse, Josh Tongue, Shoaib Bashir.
The Ben Stokes & Co. lead the five-match series 1-0. They won the first test at Headingley, Leeds, by five wickets chasing down a huge target of 371 runs in the fourth innings. Notably, England have a superb record against India at Edgbaston, Birmingham. They have defeated India in seven games out of eight matches, while one match ended in a draw.
Meanwhile, India are likely to make some changes in their playing XI for the second test. Their bowlers failed to execute brilliant teamwork against England in the first test. While Jasprit Bumrah picked a five-wicket haul in the first innings of the encounter, other bowlers failed to support him. Some reports have claimed that Bumrah might be rested in the second test at Edgbaston.
