Duffy, who has been finest pacers for New Zealand across formats, had to sit out to make way for Lockie Ferguson. At the toss, Santner also revealed the reason behind Duffy’s ouster, confirming that he was replaced by Ferguson. He also added that pacer Jamieson was rested to add Sodhi into the playing XI.

Revealing New Zealand’s changes in the playing XI, Santner said, “We have 3 changes. We have gone with an extra spinner Ish Sodhi instead of Kyle Jamieson. Lockie is back for Duffy. Could be a little bit different here (compared to the conditions in Chennai), but we have seen a lot of the games throughout the tournament here and we know the challenge they possess. Should be entertaining, they got some good spinners”.

Duffy has largely failed to make a mark in T20 World Cup 2026 so far. He picked three wickets across four games in the league stage, clinching one wicket each in three matches and going wicketless in one match.
