Yuvraj Singh also completed his fifty in just 12 balls, the fastest still in T20I cricket.

On September 19 in 2007, Yuvraj Singh broke many records during the India vs. England encounter in Durban which was part of the inaugural ICC T20 World Cup in 2007 which was played in South Africa. Yuvraj Singh became the first batter in T20Is to hammer six sixes in an over and made the fastest fifty in the format, a record which is still intact.

The match was a crunch match for both the sides and India had opted to bat first. Gautam Gambhir (58) and Virender Sehwag (68) added 136 runs for the first wicket in 14.4 overs to give India a very good start. But then India lost a quick wicket of Robin Uthappa (4) and MS Dhoni was struggling to get the boundaries going.

Entered Yuvraj Singh in the fray and as they say, the rest was history. After playing a few balls to get his eye in, Yuvraj Singh had an altercation with Andrew Flintoff who ticked off the Punjabi batter with some sledging, and only Dhoni and the umpires managed to calm the situation down.

Yuvraj Singh created history by smacking Stuart Broad for 6 sixes in an over

Then came the 19th over of the innings which was bowled by Stuart Broad who was in his first year of international cricket. Yuvraj Singh’s war of words with English all-rounder Andrew Flintoff seemed to have ignited the spark in him.

Yuvraj hit the first two deliveries for sixes over cow corner and backward square leg region, followed by extra cover and backward point for the next two. The anticipation of a full monty was high in the Indian dugout.

The left-hander struck the penultimate delivery for six also over cow corner and smashed the final one over wide mid-on.

Thus he became the first batter in T20Is to hit 6 sixes in an over and also hit the fastest fifty in T20I cricket, which came off just 12 balls and the record still stands. India went on to score 218 in 20 overs. The Englishmen put up a valiant fight to chase down the total but fell short by 18 runs in the end.
