MS Dhoni is revered as one of the finest leaders in Indian cricket. Three-time ICC trophy winner captain has a special connection with India’s Independence Day. 3 years ago on this day, MS Dhoni said goodbye to the blue jersey. MS Dhoni came on expected lines as he was ignored consistently after the World Cup 2019. That famous semi-final against New Zealand became the last game for MS Dhoni in international cricket. Known for throwing surprises to make his decision, MS Dhoni had taken various decisions in the past that turned his fans emotional.
Dhoni’s love with ‘Main pal do pal ka shayar’
Just like his calm presence in the field, Former Indian captain MS Dhoni took to social media to announce his retirement from international cricket. He also mentioned the exact time to announce himself as a retired international cricketer.
Dhoni posted a video on Instagram along with his favourite Mukesh song ‘Main pal do pal ka shayar hun’ from the movie ‘Kabhi Kabhi’ featuring his favourite actor Amitabh Bachchan. Dhoni went through the journey in his international career and featured the most beautiful moment he had in his international career.

Just a ‘short’ statement to say goodbye
5-time IPL title winner MS Dhoni also posted a short statement in a message to thank his fans all along the journey. Dhoni said, “Thanks a lot for your love and support throughout. From 19:29 hrs consider me as retired.” Dhoni’s this Instagram post marked the end of a fantastic career in world cricket. This post evoked a lot of memories in everyone’s mind and several emotions from the fans. Dhoni went far from international cricket without a farewell game. He came back in as India’s mentor for the T20 World Cup in 2021 in Dubai, where India had a disappointing run and were knocked out from the group stage itself.
Dhoni – A Successful captain
Under MS Dhoni’s leadership, India won three ICC titles. Dhoni led the Indian team to inaugural T20 World Cup in 2007, 50-overs World Cup in 2011, and ICC Champions Trophy in 2013. He also made India number one side in test cricket. He played 90 Tests, 350 ODIs, and 98 T20Is for Team India. Out of 90 Tests, 60 he played as a captain for Team India and won 27 of them. In ODIs, Dhoni led the Indian side 200 times winning 110 of them. And in T20Is, Dhoni played 72 as a captain and ended up winning 41 games. He recently won his fifth Indian Premier League title for Chennai Super Kings.
