19/11/23, a date which is etched in the hearts of almost every Indian cricket fan. The Indian Cricket Team suffered the biggest heartbreak as after a never-before-seen campaign, they lost the final of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 to the Australian Cricket Team.
Under the leadership of Rohit Sharma, India were red-hot favourites to win the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. They looked a class apart as right from the start of the tournament, almost everyone chipped in all the games and dominated each and every opposition.
India started with a six-wicket win over Australia and didn’t look back. Playing at different venues, they won all their league games, rather dominated all their league games. They defeated Afghanistan next by eight wickets and then thrashed Pakistan by seven wickets.
Following that, Bangladesh faced a 7-wicket loss at the hands of India, while New Zealand (four wickets), England (100 runs) and Sri Lanka (302 runs) were next as India marched on with their winning run in the tournament.
In their last two league games, India beat South Africa by 243 runs and then the Netherlands by 160 runs to book their berth in the semi-final. Till this point, semi-finals were always a big hurdle for India but this time around it was different.
India brought their best with the bat and ball in the semi-final as they defeated New Zealand by 70 runs. Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer shone with centuries, while Mohammed Shami took seven wickets to take his team home.

India were asked to bat first in the final and they struggled on a slow pitch, barring Rohit Sharma, who provided his team with a whirlwind start, scoring 47 runs off 31 balls. Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer fell early.
Virat Kohli (54 off 63 balls) and KL Rahul (66 off 107 balls) struggled to get going in the middle, failing to hit a boundary for over 90 balls. In the end, they got all out for 240. Mohammed Shami took off to a flying start with the ball, leaving Australia at 47 for three.
But after that, Travis Head (125) slammed a brutal century, while Marnus Labuschagne hit 58* as Australia chased the target with six wickets in hand.
