Pakistan defeated Australia in 1st PAK vs AUS T20I by 22 runs.
The three-match T20I series between Pakistan Cricket Team and Australian Cricket Team commenced on January 29 (Thursday) with the first encounter at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. While the visitors were captained by stand-in captain Travis Head in Mitchell Marsh’s absence, Salman Agha led the hosts.
Opting to bat first, Pakistan piled up 168/8 in the first innings after losing opener Sahibzada Farhan for a duck. While none of the Pakistani batters managed to score a half-century, Saim Ayub (40) and Salman Agha (39) were the top run-getters for the side.
Spinner Adam Zampa captured a four-wicket haul, while Xavier Bartlett and Mahli Breadman clinched two scalps each. While the target looked within Australia’s reach with their dominating set of batters, the Men-in-Green delivered a fabulous bowling display.
Opener Travis Head (23) and Cameron Green (36) scored crucial runs at the start, however, they faced a mini-batting collapse in the middle-order. Losing key batters like Matt Renshaw, Cooper Connolly, Mitchell Owen, Josh Philippe, and Jack Edwards cheaply, Australia completely lost the plot in the chase, and were left reeling at 112/8.
Xavier Bartlett (34*) added some crucial runs on the board in the end, but it was not enough for victory. Reaching 146/8 in 20 overs, they lost the clash by 22 runs.
Pakistan showed brilliant teamwork in bowling, with Saim Ayub (2), Abrar Ahmed (2), Shadab Khan (1), and Mohammad Nawaz (1) getting success. Ayub was adjudged Player of the Match with his dual contribution with bat and ball.
