High on confidence, Pakistan will be looking to secure themselves in the race for Asia Cup 2023 finals with an important win against India. On the other hand, team India will be looking to open their super 4 campaign on a winning note. Pakistan have retained Faheem Ashraf in the playing XI in place of Mohammad Nawaz, who played against India and got a thrashing from Ishan Kishan and Hardik Pandya in the middle-overs.
Pakistan announce Playing XI
Pakistan have announced Fakhar Zaman and Imam-ul-Haq as openers against India. Fakhar Zaman is yet to play a big innings in Asia Cup, while Imam-ul-haq had a brilliant game against Bangladesh. Imam smashed 78 runs in 84 balls. Captain Babar Azam will be taking up the number 3, and wicket-keeper Mohammad Rizwan will bat at number 4. Iftikhar Ahmed will be playing as the number 5 middle-order batter. Pakistan’s middle- order has done well in the tournament and helped the team in crucial situations. Salman Ali Agha will be playing as the No. 6 finisher and also a part-time spin bowler.
In-form spin all-rounder Shadab Khan will be playing as the No. 7 batter and lead spinner in the team. Shadab has done a magnificent job recently but failed against Indian batters in the middle-overs. Shadab went wicketless in that game. Hardik Pandya has smashed Shadab all over the park whenever they have taken on each other, and he will be looking to turn the table in Colombo. In place of Mohammad Nawaz, all-rounder Faheem Ashraf will be playing. Ashraf picked up a wicket against Bangladesh in the last game.
Pakistan’s pace attack is probably one of the best in the world right now. With the likes of Shaheen Afridi, Naseem Shah, and Haris Rauf, they have rattled most of the oppositions they have played against. Shaheen did pick up four wickets against India, and Haris Rauf also contributed well in restricting India to 266 runs. Team India lost four wickets in just 66 runs. Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Shubman Gill, and Shreyas Iyer all lost their wickets early against Pakistan pacers. Pakistan are looking for one of the most dominant teams in Asia Cup tournament.
