Pakistan to play additional T20Is ahead of T20 World Cup 2024

Pakistan have postponed West Indies and have added T20Is against New Zealand in build-up to the T20 WC 2024.

The Pakistan Cricket Board has given utmost priority to T20 cricket for their national team ahead of the next T20 World Cup. To ensure their squad's readiness, they have strategically scheduled additional T20 matches before the tournament in the West Indies and USA. This has led to an extension of Pakistan's T20I series against New Zealand at their home ground, resulting in the postponement of the West Indies series.

Initially, the West Indies tour of Pakistan was planned for February of the following year, with two Test matches as part of the World Test Championship (WTC) cycle. However, this tour has now been rescheduled for January 2025. Instead, Pakistan will tour to New Zealand after their series in Australia later this year. Commencing on January 12, the tour will consist of five T20Is. Subsequently, New Zealand will be coming to Pakistan in April 2024 for another set of five T20Is, all in preparation for the T20 World Cup.

In total, the Pakistan Cricket Board has confirmed that their national team will partake in a total of 19 T20Is, as they gear up for the World Cup. This includes 10 matches against New Zealand, as well as three against the Netherlands, two against Ireland, and four against the reigning champions, England. These changes have also led to the rescheduling of Pakistan's original tour of New Zealand in January 2025, originally comprising three ODIs and five T20Is, now shifted to April 2025.
