Pakistan announce squad for Asia Cup 2023, few key players misses out
Pakistan to play their first game of Asia Cup 2023 against Nepal, on 30th August.
Cricket enthusiasts worldwide are eagerly anticipating the commencement of the Asia Cup, scheduled to begin on August 30th. Pakistan has announced its squad for the tournament. The squad selection process has been meticulous, with a careful blend of experience and fresh talent. The same squad will also play against Afghanistan starting on August 22nd.
The inaugural match of the Asia Cup will witness Pakistan facing off against Nepal at the iconic Multan Cricket Stadium. The stage is set for an enthralling series of matches, including a highly anticipated clash against traditional rival India on September 2nd at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Sri Lanka.
The recently revealed squad for the Asia Cup features a stellar lineup of players who are primed to make their mark on the international stage. Under the leadership of the dynamic Babar Azam as captain, the team boasts an impressive array of talent. The opening positions will be handled by Abdullah Shafique, Fakhar Zaman, and Imam-ul-Haq, each bringing their unique strengths to the table. The middle order is powered by the likes of Babar Azam himself, Salman Ali Agha, Iftikhar Ahmed, Tayyab Tahir, and Saud Shakeel, forming a formidable batting unit.
In the wicketkeeping department, the reliable Mohammad Rizwan and the promising Mohammad Haris are entrusted with ensuring precision behind the stumps. The spin contingent, comprising Shadab Khan (vice captain), Mohammad Nawaz, and Usama Mir, is expected to play a crucial role in maintaining control over the game. The all-round capabilities of Faheem Ashraf further enhance the team’s flexibility. The pace attack, led by Haris Rauf, Mohammad Wasim Jr., Naseem Shah, and the formidable Shaheen Afridi, is poised to challenge the opposition’s batting lineup.
However, the squad announcement has brought to light the omission of a few notable players. Shan Masood, a seasoned campaigner, and Imad Wasim, a skilled all-rounder, have been left out. The absence of pacer Ihsanullah is also conspicuous.
All eyes on Captain Babar Azam performance in the upcoming Asia Cup 2023
Captain Babar Azam’s leadership and performance will undoubtedly be under close observation during this tournament. As the Asia Cup serves as a significant preparatory platform ahead of the impending ICC World Cup, every match will be crucial for the team’s cohesion and strategies.
In a recent press conference held at the Gaddafi Stadium, Pakistan’s Chief Selector Inzamam-Ul-Haq highlighted the importance of this pre-World Cup tournament, emphasizing its role in fine tuning the team’s skills and strategies.
